Cannon Taken just before the human transmutation on his mother

Background:
Edward Elric was born in a small urban town known as Resembool in Amestris. He is the first son to Trisha and Hohenheim Elric and older brother to Alphonse. Edward’s memory of his father isn’t that great due to the short amount of time Hohenhiem stayed home and disappeared just about a year after Alphonse’s birth, leaving Trisha to care for and raise the two boys all on her own. Years pasted and the two brothers grew all under their loving mother’s smile.
When Ed was six, he and Al managed to find their way into their father's study, a room that was supposed to be off-limits. Edward immediately went for the books, and when Trisha found them, it was under a pile of alchemy books. After that incident, the two boys couldn't be torn away from their father's books, and they were constantly surprising their mother and their neighbors the Rockbells with their progress. Their childhood friend Winry, however, was rather spooked the first time they performed alchemy in front of her on her birthday to make her a doll.
When Ed was around ten, their mother fell deathly ill. Ed finally went onto writing letter after letter to all the addresses he had of where his father had been. Though he didn’t want his father back home, he felt that it was the only way for their mother to get better. All the letters the two brothers wrote went unanswered and their mother soon faded away.
On the evening of her funeral, as Edward and Al sat by their mother's tombstone, they wondered what they would do now without her. It was then that Edward promised Al that they would find a way to use alchemy to bring her back to live. They would find a tutor to train them better in the science, and meanwhile they would develop a theory of how to transmute her a new body and a new soul, so they wouldn't have to live without her.
Soon after, during a flood, Ed and Al bumped heads with Izumi Curtis, an alchemist passing through their village on her way back home in Dublith. They begged her to train them in alchemy, and because they were both so ungodly stubborn and determined about it, she relented and said she would take them with her, but only for one month. The month was suppose to be a trial, if the two brothers failed she would return them back home. But if they passed then she would go on to teach them more about alchemy. Reassuring Granny that they wouldn’t be back in a month, Ed and Al packed their things and sent out with Izumi and her husband back to Dublith.
A long train ride later, they arrived just to jump into a small boat and drift to a island. There, Izumi toss Ed a knife and explained that their test would be being able to serving on an island for one month without using any kind of alchemy and learning the meaning ‘One is all and All is one‘. With a smile and a wave, their new found teacher left them to fend for themselves.
Trying to catch food, build shelter and avoid being caught island monster was hard work but in the end they survived. Once the month was over, their teacher returned as promised and they gave her the answer to the riddle. They passed and went on their way to learning more about alchemy. Both under went intense physical and mental training. The work paid off, and a year later they returned to Risembool, feeling confident that they would soon accomplish their dream; To have their mother back.

They gathered all the materials that compose a full-grown human body, added their own drops of blood for her soul, and drew the transmutation circle on the floor of their father's lab. With confident smiles, they took their places on the floor and clapped their hands to the chalk symbol.

Personality:
Edward is a very stubborn person, when he gets an idea in his mind, it is almost impossible to get him to change is mind. It’s a set course and no matter what rules are broken or who stands his way, there is really no stopping him. He is passionately in his ideals, having a firmly set moral compass; he makes no secret when he disapproves of something. He hates to be reminded of his height and claims that he is still growing, although he keeps his distance from milk.
For his young age, he is also extremely intelligent, having learned the basics of alchemy fairly quick by just reading books in his father’s study. Complicated concepts of science, come easy to him, and if an answer isn't readily available to him, he will find his own answer through experimentation. Curiosity is another trait that is attached to him. Seeking new answers and ideas to things he doesn't know or understand is like a past time for Ed. Being scientifically inclined, this especially applies to the nature of the world and how it works, and Edward loves nothing more than to study alchemy and view the world through alchemist eyes. He is always eager to know more, and is willing to work hard to gain knowledge.
Edward is kind hearted and likes to help others out when he care, the most important person in his life is his younger brother Al, who he tries to take care of and be strong for. Al is all the family he has since the passing of their mother, Trisha Elric. He does not include his father, Van Hohenheim, in this since he left his mother behind and left her waiting until her death. . He resents the man so much that he hates talking him.
He is sensitive about cracks on his height and has a dislike for milk of which he refuses to drink.
